When asked to photograph the 2010 Word X Word Festival it was clear that simply documenting the performers in a traditional fashion would not suffice. Word X Word is 8 days of Poetry, Spoken Word, Performance and Music spanning 9 very different venues. From the Historic and beautiful Colonial Theatre to poetry slams in a downtown barber shop. Our approach was not to visually list the performers but to capture them in a way that would convey the emotion and feeling of being there and hearing their voice and music. It was also important for us to capture the little moments, the people and places in between to show the energy and excitement through out the 8 days. The end goal was to make you feel as if you’ve been to everyone of these truly amazing shows with us and share the experience of Word X Word.
